Citizen participation is very important in city government. Citizens are encouraged to participate, not only through the election process, but also by volunteering to serve on city commissions and committees, speaking at council meetings and public hearings, and by contacting the council and city officials to express their ideas and concerns. Form of Government
The City Council, which includes the mayor, is an elected body whose primary function is to establish policy direction
and make legislative decisions. In addition, each council member serves on various commission and boards. 
 
Term of Office
The council consists of seven members (6 councilors and a mayor) who are elected to four-year terms.
Elections are held every two years, with three council seats up for election every two years.
